Is the trail finally going to be legal?
Sep 14th, 2009, 9:52am

Just to give everyone an update the last meeting with sfwmd went very well. They have basically given the county the ok to proceed with the plans to aquire the easement with the intent to preserve the bike trails.

The county would then make a maintenance agreement with Airborne to take care of the trails. The county would then be the owners and managers of the trail. All our dealings would be through the county at that point.

For this to happen several things must eventually take place:

First the land must be donated to the county by IDI

Second the drainage discharge point from the rest of the property must be evaluated and repaired if necessary (should not be a big deal)

Third we will be asked to reduce the amount of trails that lie within the conservation easement-we all knew this day would come. We dont have an exact number to share yet but this will be included in the management plan. Also the county is working on getting us access to other adjacent properties to help to make up for what we sacrifice in the easement, so the goal is to have at least as much trail as we now have(possibly more) but spread out over a greater area.

We should have a formal letter from sfwmd to the county explaining the details of the agreement within a few weeks. From there it will be up to the county and IDI.

Thanks for everyones patience and hard work, it looks like its finally paying off!!!

This was the original reason "COBRA" undecided.....I mean Airborne was created in the first place. Congrats to those that put the time and hard work in. A lot of money and time went into getting us this far, keep up the good work, you are one step closer.

It is not officially open yet. As far as it being ridable, there is a trail day coming up to address that as well as to take measures to prevent ATV intrusion into the trails.

Good deal guys.  It's always a long, slow process, but dedicated folks make these legal trails happen.

Always great to see trails not lost.  Sometimes it's a bummer to see these trails changed, but honestly better to keep a trail, even if changed a bit then to lose it.

Again, good job guys, and girls to I bet.
